Faced with a Game 7, Ewing was bombarded with pressure by the press, who said that Patrick Ewing did not possess the ability to step up in the big situations. In this game Patrick Ewing stepped up. With 5 fouls he played the entire 4th quarter aggressive and did not foul out. This basket put the Knicks ahead for good and sent New York to the NBA Finals for the first time since 1973. Le travail quotidien et la compétition exacerbent les passions dans ce milieu composés de jeunes gens repliés sur eux-mêmes. Ces adolescents, venant de milieux différents, vont apprendre à s'apprécier, se respecter, et même souffrir pour pouvoir atteindre leurs rêves. Benjamin Shorofsky est un professeur de musique très respecté, c'est lui qui calme les esprits de la troupe. Bruno Martelli, d'origine italienne, dont la vie est tout entière tournée vers la musique, est un compositeur de talent, mais il n'est pas prêt à tout pour devenir célèbre. Coco Hernandez est danseuse et chanteuse, très belle, et elle le sait. Ambitieuse, elle ne pense qu'à faire son entrée dans le monde du showbiz. Holly Laird est une nouvelle étudiante qui rejoint la section d'art dramatique. Doris Schwartz est une jeune apprentie actrice coquettemais à la volonté d'acier. Elle veut aussi devenir écrivain. Barbara Sherwood le professeur d'anglais, a bien du mal à intéresser des élèves qui ne pensent qu'à leur future carrière. Christopher Donlan, un ancien élève de l'école, revient comme moniteur de danse. Danny Amatullo, le bout-en-train de la bande, est un comédien doué, capable d'attaquer un monologue sans préparation ni trac. Lydia Grant, la prof de danse au grand cœur, a abandonné ses rêves de gloire pour se consacrer à la future carrière de ses élèves qu'elle n'épargne pas. Mais elle les écoute et les aide à résoudre leurs problèmes quotidiens. Leroy Johnson est un formidable danseur, au caractère bien trempé. Julie Miller, une violoncelliste timide est pourtant une musicienne accomplie. Montgomery MacNeill, gentil mais pas très doué, tente d'égaler les performances de sa mère, une actrice célèbre.
